Tiarella Neon Lights - Here is an interesting Tiarella that uses an abundance of different colors during the growing season. The black centered, palmate-cut leaves are edged with contrasting neon-green in spring. Tiarella Neon Lights are low growing plants only reaching 6-8 inches high and spread 18 - 22 inches. Tiarella Neon Lights produces 16 inch bloom spikes in the spring. Tiarella Neon Lights plants are very tolerant of extreme conditions and poor soil. Tiarella Neon Lights thrive in cooler shade areas of your yard.

Tiarella Neon Lights is easy to plant and easy to grow, and great for the low-maintenance landscape, borders, or patio additions. Ideal for nearly any landscape situation mixed shrub or perennial plantings, mass displays or naturalizing at woodland's edge. You'll want to consider using with other plants in those large patio containers. It attracts butterflies and hummingbirds to the garden.

With all the new tiarellas being developed Cheryl and I seem to be putting clusters of the new introductions in 3's all around our garden. You talk about an easy no fuss plant to grow, these are the ones. Whether you're a novice or a seasoned gardener once you get hooked on tiarellas, you will love having these perennial plants in your landscape or garden for years to come.

Tiarellas are easy perennials to grow and fit nicely in the front of any border, rock garden, or container. They grow most vigorously and have the strongest colors when grown in partial shade (preferably afternoon shade). They can also be grown in full shade but their growth rate will be very slow. Some varieties can withstand full sun in northern climates if they have consistent moisture, but their colors tend to fade with the intensity of the sun. The soil should be amended with organic matter prior to planting. It should also have good drainage. Tiarellas are also salt tolerant. They are useful in the north along pathways which are salted in winter or for people gardening in coastal regions.

NOTE: Tiarellas can be grown under Black Walnut trees because they are resistant to the toxin Juglone which the trees emit from their roots.

Tips on Growing Tiarellas:

1. Well-drained, NEUTRAL soil (most folks have no idea that Tiarellas prefer neutral soil) and it must be well-drained They don't do well with very acid soil.

2. Divide them every couple of years and 'bring them back to earth'. Eventually they tend to have stems that are too long. If that happens, just break them apart and plant them farther down in the soil.

3. Most will take full sun in cooler, northern zones with adequate moisture.

our NEW STEP-UPS ™ Perennial Plant collection.

What are Step-Ups ™? - Our perennials are cultivated and grown with an accelerated system. They are started in small containers, transplanted to quart containers, and then transplanted again to one gallon trade size containers. This expands the root system, making our plants perform like a two year perennial the very first year. Step-ups ™ perform the first year you plant them.

You're a step ahead with Step Ups!
